AUBURN — The Auburn Art Club will meet on Monday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. at the Park Avenue United Methodist Church. The speaker will be noted local historian Douglas I. Hodgkin who will present a review of what the winter was like in Lewiston-Auburn during the nineteenth century. Living conditions, economic activity, entertainment and local Christmas observations are among the topics of discussion.
Hodgkin is a professor emeritus of political science at Bates College, the editor of the Androscoggin Historical Society’s newsletter and a member of Lewiston Historic Preservation Review Board. He has degrees from Yale University and Duke University.
The committee for this meeting is chaired by Carol Woodard, assisted by Wilma Labrie, Barbara Mitchell and Mary Ann Norcross. All members are encouraged to attend.
