RUMFORD — Gone Loco! Cafe at No View Farm on South Rumford Road is sponsoring a month-long, local children’s art contest.
Eighteen winners of the contest, which runs from Friday, Nov. 30, to Sunday, Dec. 30, will have their art displayed on the covers of cafe menus, owner Annette Marin said Tuesday in a news release.
The contest will have three divisions and a set of rules that must be followed to qualify. A printed template will be provided.
Marin said she is planning to open the local foods-based cafe at 855 South Rumford Road in January. It will offer takeout, delivery, a seated farmhouse and pub-styled dining.
“Our meats, dairy, vegetables and baked goods will be procured from local farms and our menus will change with the seasons’ bounty,” she said.
Currently, there are more than 30 local farms and businesses that will be supported by the cafe. That’s the basis for the art contest, she said.
Entrants must incorporate into their art the words “Local Foods.” The entry must be farm or food-oriented.
A panel of judges will choose the winners. All winning entries will receive a minimum of a $5 gift certificate to Gone Loco! Cafe/No View Farm & Bakery “and have their art displayed on our menus,” Marin said.
Additionally, all entrants will be invited to a special RSVP only, free Kids Quesadilla Night hosted by Gone Loco! Cafe at No View Farm. Free meals are for entrants’ meals only, she said. A reduced price will be offered for other family members who wish to attend.
In all divisions combined, artists of the top three entries chosen will receive for first place, a $25 gift certificate; for second place, a $15 gift certificate; and for third place, a $10 gift certificate. Entries winning fourth place to 18th place will receive a $5 gift certificate.
Children must be from 5 to 16 years to enter. There are three divisions: ages 5-8, ages 9-12, and ages 13-16.
Entry must be on the eatery’s printed template and submitted on white card stock only. To enter, send a mailing address to annettemarin@yahoo.com and how many templates are desired. There is a limit of two per entrant and 10 per household.
Entries must be received by deadline, no exceptions.
“Entries must be original art by the child entering; no adult participation,” Marin said.
Any art not meeting these criteria will not be judged. To craft their menu cover, children can use any of these materials: crayons, paints, chalk, pencils, inks or material.
“Please keep the art produced as flat as possible as it will be laminated to preserve it,” she said. “No raised imaging or raised 3-D styling is allowed and will be disqualified.”
Entries are accepted from Nov. 30 to Dec. 30 and can be mailed, dropped off at the farm stand or arrangements can be made for Gone Loco! Cafe to pick up entries, Marin said.
Once received and entered into the contest, all art will become the property of Gone Loco! Cafe at No View Farm & Bakery.
“We reserve the right to use the entered art for any media purposes (as) we see fit,” she said.
