- The Henry L. Cottrell School in Monmouth participated in the National Walk to School Day on Oct. 3, sponsored by Maine Safe Route to School Program. Maine DOT has contracted with Bicycle Coalition of Maine to assist in the development and implementation of the safe routes to school program and through this grant the Cottrell school received the banner, shown here, and the reflective vests worn by the students. The Cottrell School plans to walk to school on the first Wednesday of each month, weather permitting, to help promote safe routes and exercise. Third graders Abbie Crawford and Liam Burgess, holding the banner, lead the way to school. Destin Martin, center, salutes, and Andrea MacDonald and Asialina Guenette are in the back ground.
