AUBURN— Police identified the deceased driver of a pickup truck that went off Beech Hill Road late Saturday morning as Joseph Steward, 56, of Spring Street in Lewiston.

When police arrived at the scene near Martindale Country Club, passers-by were performing CPR on Steward and his undamaged truck was on the side the road.  

Steward was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he died, according to police. He did not die as a result of the motor vehicle accident, however, but from an apparent heart condition.
