AUBURN — Our beloved Ted Wade Holland Jr., 41, of Fayette, died Dec. 1, at the Androscoggin Hospice House.

Ted was born in Columbia, S.C., Dec. 8, 1970, the son of Ted and Faye Catoe Holland. Ted graduated from Airport High School in 1988. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina in 1995, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English and became a dedicated Gamecock fan. On Aug. 2, 1997, he married his best friend, Rachael Purrington-Holland and started his family. Elijah was born in 1999, followed by Summer in 2002.

Following his marriage, Ted worked for the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office and the Supreme Court. The rest of his career he remained in service to the state of South Carolina in his work with the Department of Emergency Preparedness and as divisional director of the Department of Health and Environmental Control’s Injury and Violence Prevention. In 2009, Ted and Rachael came to Maine to make their home in Fayette. Ted loved his community and was active in the Fayette Fire Department. Ted decided to devote his career to the education of children with Autism and worked for the Wayne Regional Autism Program.

What Ted enjoyed the most was life with his family. He was a wonderful role model, not only for his children, but for everyone who had the honor of meeting and talking to him. He enjoyed hiking and other outdoor pursuits. He loved guitars and was a gifted musician, playing in several bands during his life.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Rachael Purrington Holland; son, Elijah; daughter, Summer; baby son, Samuel, expected mid-December; sisters, Judy (Brian) Ratchford and Jill (Matt) Seifert; his Purrington family, his father-in-law, Roger Purrington; his sisters-in-law, Mary (Billy) Jernigan, Laura Edwards, Ellen (John) Miller, Rebecca Purrington and Anna Purrington; his brothers-in-law, Ross (Lorelei) Purrington and Michael (Rhonda) Purrington; as well as 20 nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the community for its’ generous support, as well as the medical staff of St. Mary’s Hosptial in Lewiston, Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and Hospice House of Androscoggin.
