RANGELEY/OQUOSSOC — The ninth annual Mountain Holly Days sponsored by the Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce will be held Friday through Sunday, Dec. 7-9, in the villages of Rangeley and Oquossoc.
Participating businesses will offer special discounts, including discounts on gift certificates, promotional items and dining specials. A free marshmallow roast and bonfire provided by SnowSource and horse drawn sleigh rides and refreshments by donations hosted by the Rangeley Lakes Regional School PTA are on tap starting Friday night from 6 to 9 p.m. at Haley Pond Park.
The three days of special Mountain Holly Days shopping, Friday through Sunday, offer special discounts at area businesses, refreshments at businesses’ open houses and an opportunity to qualify for a drawing of $100 Chamber Bucks. Vote for your favorite decorated business with a $1 vote; all funds raised will go toward Rangeley Rotary youth programs and the Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce in the promotion of the region.
Santa will be arriving by fire truck at 10 a.m. at the Rangeley Lakes Builders’ Supply courtesy of the Rangeley Fire Department. An opportunity to have your child’s picture taken with Santa and to later receive a letter from Santa is being hosted by Little Mountain School until 1 p.m. as a fundraiser for the school.
The 5th annual Parade of Trees on Saturday, Dec. 8, sponsored by the Rangeley Rotary Club, is held at the Gingerbread House Restaurant in Oquossoc starting at 5 p.m. with the auction beginning at 7 p.m. Early ticket purchases are recommended for this popular event and are available at the Chamber or from Rotarians.
Beautifully-decorated full size and table top trees and wreathes created and donated by local businesses are chock full of special surprises such as gift certificates, passes and other values. New this year will be trees sponsored by the Rangeley village businesses and the Oquossoc village businesses. All proceeds from the auction also benefit the programs of the Rangeley Rotary Club and the Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce.
Events end with the 34th annual Walk to Bethlehem sponsored by the Rangeley Friends of the Arts. Gather at the Rangeley Inn at 5:30 p.m. to stroll through the Rangeley village singing Christmas carols, church to church, in search of “a place to stay.” The Church of the Good Shepherd is the final stop for the community celebration featuring local groups in music and dance performances ending with the retelling of the Christmas story with live performers including shepherds, wise men, angels, Mary, Joseph and the baby. All are invited to a dessert reception following the evening performances.
