DIXFIELD — RSU 10’s first snow day of the year occurred Monday, Dec. 10, which meant that the regularly scheduled meeting of the school board was also cancelled.
Superintendent Tom Ward has rescheduled that meeting for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at a place to be announced.
Among the agenda items is one that deals with enrollment projections.
The board agreed a couple of months ago to hire a consulting firm to study the population and enrollment trends. These findings will determine where students should attend school within their region, as a cost-saving measure.
The three regions of RSU 10 are Rumford/Mexico, Dixfield and Buckfield. Ten schools serve the current enrollment of about 2,800 students.
Recommendations could mean sending some elementary-school-aged children to a school closer to their home than the one they currently attend. Other recommendations will also be discussed.
The study is meant to show how RSU 10 could save money on transportation and other areas.
Additional agenda items include discussion regarding whether RSU 10 will become a full member of the Maine Cohort for Customized Learning and policies related to concussions. The meeting will also cover student discrimination and harassment, as well as reports from Dirigo Elementary, Middle and High School principals.
The resignation of a speech and language clinician will be accepted, and several transfers will be made.
