WILTON — Two women were injured in a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 156 and Routes 2 and 4 on Thursday afternoon.
Nancy Purinton, 70, of Livermore Falls and a passenger in another vehicle, Sylvia Brophy, 79, of Livermore were transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital by NorthStar ambulance following the 12:14 p.m. accident. Both women complained of pain around the rib area, Wilton police Chief Heidi Wilcox said.
Purinton was treated and released. Brophy was still being treated by late afternoon, according to a hospital spokesman.
Purinton, driving a 2004 Dodge Neon, was driving east on Route 156, also known as Depot Street. Her car and a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Richard Brophy, 83, of Livermore collided in the intersection. Brophy was coming down the hill on Routes 2 and 4, according to Wilton patrol officer Chad Abbott’s report.
Richard Brophy was not hurt, but accompanied his wife to the hospital, Wilcox said.
The collision pushed pushed the Neon into a 2001 Chevrolet Impala stopped at the stop sign on the south side of Route 156. The Neon traveled into the yard of Gould’s Service Station.
The Impala was driven by Melissa Pierce, 28, of Jay. She was not injured and had to leave the accident before police arrived, Wilcox said. She did leave a message and her information for the police before she left.
Wilton firefighters had to open the door of the Neon to release Purinton.
Both cars were hauled by Hilltop Collision Center in Jay.
Wilton and East Dixfield fire departments helped with traffic control and road cleanup.
Police from Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and Maine State Police also helped, Wilcox said.
