FARMINGTON — Franklin County commissioners voted Tuesday to give dispatchers a 2-percent raise retroactive to July 1, county Clerk Julie Magoon said.
Dispatchers, who are members of the Teamsters Local 340 union, voted on the contract Monday, she said.
Minor changes need to be made to the contract, she said. It also needs to be reviewed by the county’s attorney before the official pact is approved and signed, she said.
The contract is for one year and will expire on June 30, 2013. The county is looking at making the dispatch center separate from the Sheriff’s Department and hiring a communications director to oversee the center, she said.
Commissioners also voted unanimously to set incoming Chief Deputy Steven Lowell’s salary as of Jan. 1, 2013, at $53,125. Commissioners took into account his years of service and his training.
Both decisions came after executives sessions with Lowell and Sheriff-elect Scott Nichols Sr.
In other business, commissioners postponed holding the ground-breaking ceremony for the new dispatch center that was scheduled for Tuesday until better weather arrives. That does not mean the project cannot begin.
