LEWISTON — A band of angels descended upon Blake Street Towers for Make A Difference Day on Oct. 27.

Some 60-plus residents at the Lewiston Housing Authority’s property were treated to a ham dinner with all the fixings. Also provided were baskets filled with food and personal care items, socks and other gifts. Residents had the opportunity to have a massage and their fingernails done. All this was provided by Edie’s Angels, a group of friends and family of Mary and Peggy McRae, nurses at CMMC.

Mary, Peggy and their volunteers started doing this several years ago for Make A Difference Day and have returned every year. They also bring individual meals on Thanksgiving and Christmas to residents who may not have friends or family to share the holidays with.

Mary states that the reason they do this is because “My mother, Edith McRae, volunteered her entire life. She is the amazing woman that I use as a role model for citizenship. It is because of her leadership qualities that the three of us McRae girls started Edie’s Angels. Peggy, Michelle and I are the foundation and our friends and family are the glue that keeps us all together to help one another.”

It was great!” “The Angels were very attentive to us all and they all served from their hearts. It was incredible!” “It is a great thing they do to work so hard for the pleasure of others!” “This event helps unite us residents.” “It was nice to sit, have conversation with neighbors and the volunteers and have a nice meal.” “The food was excellent!” “You couldn’t get better service in a restaurant.” “Everybody’s mood was up.”
