WILTON — Colonial Daughters Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held their October meeting at Calzolaio’s Restaurant with 17 members and two guests present.

This was a very special meeting to welcome four new members to the chapter. They were: Charlotte Collins and Donna Collins Towle, sisters from Dixfield, joining the DAR under their patriot William Brackett; Jean Ferrari of New Vineyard, joining under her patriot Samuel Johnson; and Emma Tosch of New Sharon, joining under her patriot Benjamin Olds. Tosch was unable to attend; her father Kent Tosch of New Sharon represented her. The ladies were welcomed as new members presented with their DAR pins and certificates.

Several awards were also given out during the meeting, Melanie Farmer, Volunteer Information Specialist co-chairwoman for the Maine State Organization DAR was recognized for her many hours dedicated to maintaining Maine’s and several other state websites. Joanne Page received the “Shining Star” award for achieving an 11 member for member status. Heather Barklay was noted for having been a member for 25 years and Jeanette Stevens for 30 years.

It was also an honor to have State Regent Virginia Spiller of the Old York Chapter in York as the guest speaker for the program. Spiller spoke about the efforts being made to make Maine Daughters more conscious of their carbon footprints and the U.S. Government’s endorsement of the program “Leave No Trace” being practiced in all areas of the country.

Maine Daughters are rekindling their focus in regard to thinking of their carbon footprints and the effect of their actions each and every day. By working together Maine can continue to be beautiful and clear of pollution.

DAR is a service organization made up of approximately 170,000 members with 3,000 chapters all dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America’s future through better education.
