LEWISTON — Volunteer support has been an integral part of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice’s services for 40 years. The program is now widely recognized as one of the most extensive, nonprofit, home health care volunteer programs in Maine.
Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice has announced that two people completed the General Volunteer training held recently. Those who attended the training include Jeannine Blais of Lewiston and Richard Whittle of Auburn.
“When I became a volunteer, I never realized what a big impact it would have on my life,” said Bob Oliver, volunteer for Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice. “I started to look at life through the eyes of the caregiver and patient. I then realized just how much a couple of hours of my time were worth to someone else. I love this work.”
General Volunteer training prepares volunteers to visit with patients in Home Care services who are homebound while they recover from an illness or injury or any other reason requiring home care services. This training also prepares volunteers to work in the office or at the Hospice House as a greeter or kitchen support.
The next General Volunteer training is scheduled for Jan. 10 at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice’s Lewiston office. The class is from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is provided to the community at no cost.
