PHS meeting postponed
PERU — The Peru Historical Society meeting that was scheduled for Jan. 3 has been postponed until Thursday, Jan. 10, at 1 p.m. at the home of Nancy Knox.
Seniors host shopping trip
RUMFORD — The Rumford Senior Center will host a shopping trip by bus to Portland on Thursday, Jan. 10. If you are interested call the Rumford Senior Center by Tuesday, Jan. 8, to be placed on the list.
Dempsey Center balance workshop
RUMFORD — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free balance program for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “It’s a Matter of Balance” will take place Wednesday, Jan. 9, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Rumford Hospital, Conference Room A.
Balance problems and falls can occur for cancer survivors as a result of the cancer treatments they have received. Some falls can lead to injuries and activity limitations.
Rhonda Norton, physical therapist with the Rumford Hospital, will facilitate an interactive session including balance screenings and physical therapy strategies for assessing and improving balance. Participants are asked to arrive at 2:30 if they want to participate in a screening.

Quilters to meet Jan. 10
RUMFORD — Rumford Area Quilters will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Rumford United Methodist Church, Linnell Street. Note the new day and time for winter months.
For those who want, donations for a baby shower to benefit Newborns in Need will be accepted. Demonstrations planned are rotary cutter and bottle cap finger pincushion with the opportunity to make one that day. Supplies needed for the pincushion project are a plastic soda bottle cap, needle, thread and scissors. Fabric, elastic and filling will be provided.

Texas hold’em at Hope Assoc.
RUMFORD — A Texas hold’em tournament will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Hope Association, 85 Lincoln Ave.
The cost is $50. Doors open at 8:30 a.m.
Proceeds will be used to help fund the River Valley Rotary Club’s support for local charities, the Winterization Project to help qualifying individuals weatherize their homes and Envision Rumford to continue the revitalization of downtown Rumford.
