WEST PARIS — First Universalist Church of West Paris invites the public to Sunday worship services, which are presented by guest speakers and Worship Service Committee members. Services are 9 a.m. every Sunday until mid-June.
Jan. 6, Expectations: Great and Otherwise. As we begin the New Year, what are our plans, expectations and hopes? Can the Buddhist lesson – to live in the moment – inform how we regard the future? The service is led by The Rev. Fayre Stephenson, consulting minister at First Universalist Church in Norway, who has become a regular guest speaker at the West Paris church. A graduate of Harvard Divinity School, Stephenson most recently served for many years as program director of the Unitarian Universalist Camp and Conference Center at Ferry Beach in Saco. Prior to moving to Maine, Stephenson enjoyed a long ministry as minister of the Foxborough Universalist Church in Massachusetts where she was voted Minister Emerita.
Jan. 13, Jubilee. In the Biblical tradition, a Jubilee was at the end of a seven year cycle when all property was returned to the original owners, including Hebrew slaves; it represented a new beginning. Cindy Reedy, a regularly visiting guest speaker, is a third generation Unitarian Universalist and teacher.
Jan. 20, Remembering Dr. King. On this, the long weekend commemorating Martin Luther King Jr., we’ll explore and celebrate his legacy. The Rev. Fayre Stephenson leads this service.
Jan. 27, Celebrating Friendship. Nancy Willard, Worship Service Committee member, leads this service.
