Transportation to vets job fair

NORWAY/PARIS — A veterans’ job fair will be held Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Lewiston Career Center. Transportation from Norway/South Paris is available, for a nominal fare, on a first-come/first-served basis, by calling Western Maine Transportation Services at 800-393-9335 before noon on Monday, Jan. 14.

The regular adult fare is $3 each way. The fare for anyone who is disabled, or age 60 and over is $1.50 each way. Fares must be paid in cash when boarding.

Monthly free supper Jan. 18

NORWAY — The monthly free supper at Second Congregational Church will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18.

On the menu is spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread, salad and desserts by Bruce.

The church is on the corner of Paris and Main streets across from the Rowe School. The free suppers are held on the third Friday of each month, organized by Pam and Bruce Davison and Deb Ladner, and are open to all.

Jones Dance Band to play

PARIS — The Jones Dance Band will play from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 19 and 26, at the American Legion Hall on Church Street. The cost is $5.

Woodstock Historical Society

WOODSTOCK — The Woodstock Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Woodstock Town Complex.

The video “Bryant Pond, The Last Ringdown” will be shown.

The program on the last hand-crank phone will follow with special guests Susan Glines and Linda Stowell, daughters of Barbara and Eldon Hathaway, owners of the phone company. They will share stories of working as operators and living with this company in their home.

The meeting is open to the public.

Free soup and chowder fest

OTISFIELD — Al and Pattie Haggerty announce the third annual Free Soup and Chowder Fest at the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church, 231 Rayville Road, off Route 121. It will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19. Rain or snow date is Jan. 26.

The meal will feature home-cooked soups and chowders, cornbread, dumplings, biscuits and desserts. Donations appreciated. For information call 539-8922.
