- One of 76 snowmobile riders participating in Friday night’s first Snowmobile Hill Climb of the season drives toward the starting area where another rider waits to take off up the Lower Androscoggin Trail at Black Mountain of Maine ski area in Rumford. Freezing drizzle was falling. About an hour after the event started, Rumford emergency responders were called to the scene for a 28-year-old rider who was injured in an accident and complained of numbness in his legs. Per Black Mountain policy, marketing director Paige Carter declined to identify the rider or talk about the incident. “It was very unfortunate,” she said. “We assume for the best and hope it’s not serious.” Other than that, Carter said she was “pretty happy with the turnout.”
