BIDDEFORD — Ariane Elizabeth Bowie, daughter of Susan and Jack Hedrich of New Gloucester and Douglas Bowie of Falmouth, has achieved a 4.0 grade point average for the fall semester at the University of New England in their accelerated one year Master of Social Work program with an emphasis on patients with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

She graduated from USM in May 2012 with honors earning the Eta Mu chapter Phi Alpha National Social Work Honor for social work students dedicated to excellence in scholarship and high professional standards. She is currently completing a one year internship at Opportunity Alliance working with family mediation.

She is a 2008 graduate of St. Dom’s High School in Auburn.

UNITY — Darian Nadeau, son of Helen DeBlois of Winthrop and Gary Nadeau of Monmouth, has been named to the honors list for the fall semester at Unity College.

Darian is a first year student majoring in conservation law enforcement.

SOUTH PORTLAND — Joel P. Dumond of Greene has been placed on the dean’s list for the fall 2011 semester at Southern Maine Community College.

He is majoring in electrician technology/air-conditioning and refrigeration.

UNITY — Jacob Hastings, son of Rick and Laurie Hastings of Farmington, has been named to the honors list for the fall 2012 semester at Unity College. He is a senior majoring in conservation law enforcement.

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Saint Anselm College junior Ashley Giddinge of Gray, Maine, led a volunteer service trip to Manahawkin, N.J., Nov. 16-18, to assist in the clean up of areas devastated by Hurricane Sandy.

The nursing major and her group of 17 students worked with Jersey Cares, a nonprofit volunteer organization. Students provided physical and emotional support to the families in New Jersey, delivering donations and accompanying the families as they were finally allowed to enter their homes, which were scheduled to be razed.

The trip was organized through Campus Ministry’s Service & Solidarity Mission Program, which manages student service trips during winter, spring and summer breaks. They give students the opportunity to experience the value of volunteer work, as the students take part in programs around the world that assist those in need. Giddinge will also lead a trip to the Dominican Republic during winter break.
