READFIELD (AP) — Maine state police say speed and distracted driving are being investigated as factors in a fatal crash in which a 17-year-old was behind the wheel in Readfield.
Investigators say the 20-year-old passenger, Gabriel Soucy of Mount Vernon, died at the scene Saturday afternoon after the pickup he was riding in went through a stop sign and slammed into a tree. State police are declining to identify the Wayne teenager who was driving.
It was foggy at the time of the crash.
State police will consult with the attorney general’s office after the investigation is completed.
