HARTFORD — Voters will decide at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, if the town should accept title to the schoolhouse.
The special town meeting will be held at the Town Hall.
The article asks if the town should take possession of the schoolhouse at 392 Church St. Insurance, utilities and maintenance for 2013-14 would be approximately $800.
The building was given to the historical committee years ago but that group disbanded, reverting the title for it back to the town.
Another article will ask voters if the town should close the current transfer station at 52 Marble Road and allow curbside pickup of bulky waste twice a year. The town already has weekly curbside pickup of household waste. The anticipated cost for closing the transfer station and covering collection is $2,500.
Because of the remote location near the Buckfield line, it is difficult to monitor the station. There have been continuing problems with people dumping refrigerators, tires and other waste in the woods. The state Department of Environmental Protection demanded it be closed.
Article four will ask the town to allow the Board of Selectmen to sell and dispose of the 4.5 acre parcel.
