Church helps former inmates
AUBURN — The Outreach Committee of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church hosted a festive holiday luncheon on Dec. 15 with former inmates from the Cell to Street Reentry Program.
A traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings was prepared and served by church and community volunteers. Music and holiday gift bags for all in attendance added to the celebration.
The Cell to Street Reentry Program provides former prison inmates with housing referrals, food, clothing and hygiene items, transportation to medical appointments and one-on-one support for a year after release.
Cribbage league winners named
LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Lewiston Memorial Armory on Jan. 17 were: first, Sandy Verrill and Gary David; second, Arnie Burgess and Dick Dennis; third, Richard Champagne and Henry Maheux; fourth, Robert Oliver and Aaron Burke; fifth, Moe Fournier and Roger Labbe.

Chili cook-off aids Advocates
LEWISTON — L/A Harley Davidson and the United Bikers of Maine, Androscoggin County, will host the fourth annual chili cook-off from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at 839 Main St. Fifty percent of proceeds will be donated to Advocates for Children.
There is no entry fee, but a $5 donation is appreciated.
Prizes will be awarded: first place, $250; second place, $100; third place, $50; plaque for hottest entry. A youth bakers competition for ages under 15 will also take place. Bring a wrapped set of goodies. Ribboned medallions will be awarded for the top three places.
Competitors should arrive from 11 a.m. to noon.

Tax form box helps libraries
LEWISTON — For the first time the Maine State Income Tax form includes a check-off for making donations to the Maine Public Library Fund.
Donating to the Maine Library fund will help support interlibrary loan, as well as other library services such as continuing education, free programming, eBook purchases and special consultant services from which all people can benefit.
When filing your state tax from, fill out Schedule CP which is used for voluntary contributions to any of the organizations listed. The Lewiston Public Library has copies of schedule CP along with many of the other common tax forms.
Maine taxpayers using the I-File system will also see the Maine Public Library Fund on line 8 of the Schedule CP voluntary contributions page.

Meadowview trips to Canada
LEWISTON — The Meadowview Senior Council is organizing a trip to Lac Megantic Canada on Saturday, April 6. The price of $50 for the day trip includes bus, meal and some shopping. A passport or passport card is required to cross the border. Seats are still available for any adults who would be interested in going.
Also being planned is a six-day cruise to Canada, leaving Boston on June 4 until June 9, stopping at St. John and at Halifax. Price of $650 includes transportation to Boston and back, ship’s cabin, all meals and entertainment on the ship. Passport or passport card is not needed, just photo ID.

Pilates yoga at Dempsey Ctr.
LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free Pilates Yoga class for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. The sessions will take place Tuesdays, Feb. 5, through 26 from 12:15 to 1 p.m. at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.
Yoga instructor Tish Caldwell will facilitate this low-impact exercise class, merging the benefits of both Pilates and yoga. Participants will develop core strength, tone muscles, increase flexibility and help reduce stress.
