LEWISTON — Live, streaming high school hockey is returning to the Sun Journal and Sun Media Group for the 2013 playoffs.

Sun Media Group, parent company of the Sun Journal, announced Tuesday night that it has acquired the rights to webcast the Maine Principals’ Association ice hockey playoffs live from the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston. The games will be available through the Sun Journal’s website, sunjournal.com, as well as through The Forecaster’s website, theforecaster.net.

“The opportunity to provide this programming live to the web is tremendous,” Sun Journal Sports Editor Justin Pelletier said. “We appreciate the cooperation the Maine Principals’ Association, Oxford Networks and the Androscoggin Bank Colisee have shown in helping us make this vision a reality. We were pleased with the quality of our production of a few games last year, and believe this year’s production will expand on that foundation.”

The schedule of games is as follows: Friday, Feb. 16: Girls’ state championship game, 7 p.m; Saturday, March 2: Class A boys’ regional semifinals, 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 6 p.m., 8 p.m.; Tuesday, March 5: Class A boys’ regional finals, 6 p.m., 8 p.m.; Saturday, March 9: Class B boys’ state final, 1 p.m.; Class A boys’ state final, 6 p.m.

Award-winning broadcaster Rob Kennedy, at one time the television voice of the Lewiston Maineiacs and now a broadcaster with a wide-ranging resume, will be providing play-by-play for all of the boys’ games. This will be Kennedy’s second season broadcasting hockey playoff games with Sun Media. Pelletier, the longtime, award-winning hockey beat writer for the Sun Journal, will join Kennedy in the booth.

The play-by-play announcer and color commentator for the girls’ championship game will be announced at a later date.
