JAY — The town will not have to pay anything toward painting fire Engine 3, Larry White, public safety director, said.
Selectmen voted in December 2012 to pay about $2,100, or 24 percent, of the cost to paint the E-One engine that is six years old and still under warranty. The remainder was to be paid by E-One.
At the time, Smith said the truck had some peeling paint and rust.
Initially, the town was told it would have to pay 50 percent of the cost, but after negotiations a counteroffer resulted in the town share being lower, he had told selectmen.
After more negotiations with the company, White said, the town won’t have to pay anything.
