A big fish story is told by a party of Sabattus fishermen whose veracity is above suspicion. The three men were fishing on the pond and, among other fish, got a mammoth white perch. Men in a nearby camp disputed the weight, saying that a white perch never lived in this pond that weighed so much. They weighed it on a different set of scales and found that it weighed just the same, two pounds and a quarter, which was without a doubt the largest white perch ever caught in Sabattus pond. They usually run a half pound each, and once in a while one will weigh as much as a pound.
