McLaughlin lecture series
PARIS — The McLaughlin Garden and Homestead 2013 winter lecture series continues on Wednesday, Feb. 13, when Eli Goodwin of Goodwin Nursery will discuss “Underused Landscape Plants and Undervalued Landscaping Techniques.”
Goodwin, an Oxford Hills native and Cornell University graduate, has reopened the former Goodschmidt’s Nursery on Route 26 in Oxford. He plans to discuss both plant material and tips to develop a landscape.
Other lectures in the series include Mike Murphy on Feb. 27 discussing woodland plants, Mark Brandhorst on March 13 discussing rock plants, Cindy Tibbetts on March 27 discussing herbs and Mary Van Nest on April 10 discussing birds.
The talks will be held on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. The public is invited for tea beginning at 3:30. The talks are free but donations are greatly appreciated. The lectures will be held at the McLaughlin homestead on Main Street near the Oxford County Courthouse.
Honey Bee Club rescheduled
PARIS — Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club’s workshop that was scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 9, has been rescheduled to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Oxford County Extension Center, 9 Olson Road. Speaker is Carol Cottrill, president of the Maine State Bee Association and master bee keeper. Topic will be wintering bees. The public is welcome. HARTFORD — The Hartford Clothing Center will be open on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The Clothing Center is directly across from the church.

Food safety certification
TURNER — MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education is offering a nationally accredited food safety certification program designed for food service managers, directors, chefs, kitchen managers, dietitians, dietary managers and food service staff. Topics include food handling, HAACP, pest control and more.
The course will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, and Thursday, Feb. 21. The course fee of $160 includes textbook and exam.
