First Auburn Valentine party

AUBURN — The First Auburn Seniors will hold a Valentine party on Wednesday, Feb. 20. Tickets are $5.

Thirty-one members attended the Jan. 2 meeting. Pot of Gold winners were Pat Donohue, George Herrick and Lucy Cowles. Attendance winners were Nancy Roy and Mary Tassineri. Special drawings were won by Alta Giasson, Helen McGuire and Andre Giasson.

Meals on Wheels cookbook sale

LEWISTON – SeniorsPlus Meals on Wheels is launching a fundraiser selling Meals on Wheels “Made With Love” family cookbooks for $25 each, plus shipping and handling for mail orders.

They have featured celebrities like Joan Rivers, Barbara Bush and Joan Lunden, and celebrity chefs such as Mario Batali, Paula Deen and Martha Stewart sharing personal stories and their favorite recipes.

Cookbooks are available at SeniorsPlus office, 8 Falcon Road, Lewiston, or by phone 207-795-4010 or 1-800-427-1241. Checks and credit cards are accepted. All proceeds go to SeniorsPlus Meals on Wheels.

SeniorsPlus is the Area Agency on Aging for Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties. They provide meals on wheels to about 250 older adult clients daily who are homebound and unable to cook for themselves. Because of funding cuts, there is a wait list of greater than 120 older adults in the tri-county area.

Legion Post 22 meeting Feb. 21

LEWISTON — American Legion Post 22 will hold its monthly membership meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Lewiston Armory, Central Avenue.

Unit 22 Auxiliary will meet at 5:15 p.m.

Special tribute will be paid to Gen. George Washington on the 281st anniversary of his birth. There will be a 50/50 raffle and prizes will be given.

College prep courses set

TURNER — MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education has announced that beginning Feb. 27 it will offer new classes that are specifically designed to prepare students to enter college. These classes are free.

The College Ready program is funded through a FAME grant and includes classes in college culture, English, math and computer and technology skills. The college culture class will be dedicated to understanding and completing financial aid forms and college applications.

The following classes will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 27: Jewelry Beading with Beth Andrews, 6 to 8 p.m. for six weeks. Tuition is $45.

Social Economic Impact of Robots with William Lovell, 5 to 7 p.m. for four weeks. Tuition is $30.

Fly Tying with Steve Kilfoyle, 6 to 8 p.m. for 10 weeks. Tuition is $60.

Donations for health fair

SABATTUS — Oak Hill High School will hold a health fair on Wednesday, June 5, to educate students in grades six through 12 and the community on various health topics.

Some of the topics that will be covered include 5210, smoking, diabetes, texting and driving, blood pressure screenings, drug awareness, dental care and planned parenthood.

Donations of items for raffles and/or gift cards would be appreciated.
