1926 – 2013
BRUNSWICK — Robert T. McClure Sr., 86, of South Adams Road, Litchfield, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Mid Coast Senior Health Center.
He was born in Malden, Mass., on April 1, 1926, the son of Alan and Nellie Brennan McClure. He attended Massachusetts schools. During WWII, he served in the Army in the European Theater. Robert then worked at the Boston Shipyard.
On Oct. 29, 1948, he married Ethel L. Davidson. She died on Aug. 24, 2006.
In the early ’50s, they moved to Durham, and for 32 years Robert worked as a firefighter at the Brunswick Naval Air Station. Robert worked as a janitor for the Durham School until retiring when he was 73 in 1999. The staff at the school truly enjoyed working with Bob.
For several years, Robert operated a stove and patio shop in Durham. Robert enjoyed reading, fishing and hunting and was also a Civil War buff. Robert was known as the “Brunswick Burger King Greeter,” or as he referred to it, a “Whopper Burger.”
Surviving is a son, Robert T. McClure Jr. and his wife, Becky, of Durham; two daughters, Donna Miller and her husband, Sam, of Durham, and Lorri Richard and her husband, Marcel, of Litchfield; a brother, Eddie McClure of Somerville, Mass.; and two sisters-in-law, Sis McClure of Northport and Anna McClure of St. Petersburg, Fla. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
