1921 – 2013
HARTFORD, CONN. — Rita S. (Chalifoux) Goulet, 91, of Hartford, beloved wife of the late Rosaire A. Goulet, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 17.
Rita was born in Lewiston on May 6, 1921, a daughter of the late Rock and Alice (Bonsainte) Chalifoux and resided in Hartford for many years.
Rita was a great employee and had three careers she loved. In her early adult life, she worked for Hill Manufacturing in Lewiston, where she was a cloth inspector. In her forties, she went back to school and became a nurse’s aide and worked at Hartford Hospital, where she was showered with gifts from patients and their families for her great care. Rita retired from the State of Connecticut Tax Department, where she was proud of her duties as union steward.
Rita’s greatest pleasure was her family and friends, and she was a great talker who never met a stranger she couldn’t talk to. She loved parakeets, especially Whitey, knitting, bingo and lottery scratch tickets.
Survivors include her son and caretaker, Robert “Bob” Goulet of Hartford; her daughter, Sandra Goulet Wilson and her husband, Ron, of Avon; her sons, Norman Coulombe and his wife, Margaret Coulombe, of Canton, Mass., and Paul Coulombe of Cumberland, Md.; her grandchildren, Andre Coulombe of Texas, Noel Jenkins and her husband, Will, of Denver, Colo., Robin McPhee and her husband, Marcus, of Bristol, Traci Vitello of Canton, Mass., Craig Coulombe of Branford, Lynn Coulombe of Newton, Mass.; her great-grandchildren, Megan and Madison Moriarty, Danny and Alex Vitello, and Thomas and Sam Jenkins; and her many nieces, nephews and other friends of the family. She will be deeply missed by all family and friends.
Rita was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Rose, Maria and Rolande; and her brothers, Adolph, Romeo, Albert, Armand and Roland.
Rita’s family would like to extend a special thanks to her aides and special friends, Maxine, Tina and Alice, along with the West Hartford Health and Rehabilitation Center staff for their exceptional care.
