WILTON — Selectmen on Tuesday approved a waiver of foreclosure on the Forster Mill property and scheduled a special town meeting for 7 p.m. March 5 at the Town Office for voters to weigh in on it.
The waiver “does not excuse taxes,” Town Manager Rhonda Irish said.
The town recently received a letter and a payment on taxes dating back to 2009 from owner Adam Mack, who said he intends to restart demolition on the property in May.
In other business, selectmen set the annual town meeting date and accepted a bid from Printing Warehouse of Wilton to print the town report.
The town meeting will be Monday, June 10, with elections June 4.
Printing Warehouse was not the lowest of the four bids, but selectmen chose to stay local and approved its $1,650 offer.
After a previous discussion on the town’s towing policy raised by Selectman Tom Saviello, the board unanimously agreed to keep it as it is.
Saviello had previously brought up an incident of the owner of a car leaving it to get gas without leaving a note. Police had the car towed at a cost of $180 plus storage fees.
Saviello wanted to help minimize costs for residents by putting towing services out to bid with the lowest bidder called in these situations. If they weren’t available, the next lowest bidder would be called.
For Chief Heidi Wilcox, towing is dependent on who can do it the safest and quickest. Local departments and dispatch call towing companies out by rotation, unless the person is there and indicates a preference, she told the board at the previous meeting.
The matter went to the newly formed Police Advisory Committee, which met on Feb. 14, and it favored leaving the policy as is.
The board agreed. It elected Selectman Paul Berkey Jr. as its representative on the Police Advisory Committee.
The board chose to meet with representatives from Farmington Water Department during a regular board meeting rather than hold a special workshop, as the department requested. The department is looking for a possible emergency supply of water, Irish told the board.
