Lecture on woodland plants
PARIS — Mike Murphy of West Paris will present an illustrated lecture on woodland plants on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the McLaughlin homestead on Main Street near the Oxford County Courthouse.
Because the diversity of perennials available to gardeners is at an all-time high, Murphy will make suggestions for shady places. These include uncommon perennials which are right at home in Maine gardens including trilliums, primroses and lady slippers. Murphy plans to reopen Wake Robin Nursery this spring.
This is the third in the winter and spring lecture series, which is held on alternate Wednesdays at 4 p.m. The public is invited for tea beginning at 3:30. The talks are free but donations are greatly appreciated.
Remaining lectures are Mark Brandhorst on March 13 discussing rock plants, Cindy Tibbetts on March 27 discussing herbs and Mary Van Nest on April 10 discussing birds.
Lewiston Bridge Club
LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners at the Lewiston Armory on Feb. 11 were as follows: first, Jeanine Kivus and David Lock; second, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; third, Connie Webster and Claire Lyons.

World Day of Prayer event
BETHEL — The annual World Day of Prayer Service will be hosted by the women of the West Parish Congregational Church, 32 Church St., at 1 p.m. Friday, March 1.
This year’s ecumenical service was prepared by the women of France, and two women from each local church are needed to participate. Women of the area are invited to attend. Refreshments will be available following the service.

Dr. Seuss’ birthday
NORWAY — Norway Public Library will celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 1.
Come have fun with the Lorax and friends and enjoy Seussical crafts, games and snacks.
Future events include: Family Story Time at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16; a special story and craft related to St. Patrick’s Day; Beadalicious at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, making art out of fuse beads.
Weekly Storytime is held every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
In March, some of the topics will be World Read Aloud Day, St. Patrick’s Day, spring and Passover.
World Day of Prayer in Sumner

Note-A-Belles sing at library
WEST PARIS — The Note-A-Belles, a newly-formed vocal group from the Oxford Hills Area, will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, March 1, at the West Paris Library.
The group is comprised of ladies who have sung together previously with various local singing groups. Members include Diane Maddix, Sally Riman, Jennifer St. Pierre, Patricia Jillson, Cynthia Wescott and accompanist, Virginia Noble.
They will perform a variety of selections, including folk, patriotic and show tunes. The program is free and open to all.
Meet the group following the program, and enjoy chocolate refreshments with a hot or cold drink.

Public supper set for March 2
OXFORD — Grace Fellowship Church of Poplar Street will hold a public supper at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 2. The menu will consist of chicken, mashed and scalloped potatoes, French-style green beans, biscuits and rolls, with strawberry shortcake, punch and coffee.
