WEST PARIS — Shirley B. Lowell, 90, of Bethel, died Monday, Feb. 18, at Ledgeview Living Center.

She was born in Greenwood on Sept. 9, 1922, the daughter of Forest and Annie Glover Merrill. Shirley married Linwood Lowell and was a housekeeper. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, as well as playing bingo. Shirley was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Locke Mills.

She is survived by her children, Leslie and his wife, Martha Bates, of Turner, Mildred Chaloux and her husband, Norman, of Berlin, N.H., Robert Bates and his wife, Elizabeth, of Otisfield and Michael Bates and his wife, Nancy, of Brunswick; grandchildren, Dondi Record of Poland, Leslie (Sonny) Bates Jr. of Turner, Duane Bates of Turner, Darlene Miller of Laconia, N.H., Wayne Chaloux of Berlin, N.H., Patty Derosier of Danbury, N.H., Tim Chaloux of Berlin, N.H., Tammy Thomas of Otisfield, Shelley Boynton of Dixfield, Robert Bates Jr. of Dixfield, Shannon Bates of Rumford, Dori Potter and Kelly Nelson of Lewiston; and a sister, Pearl Lader of Clairmont, N.H.

She was predeceased by her husband, Linwood; her mother, Annie Glover Merrill Billings; her father, Forest Merrill; her sons, Stanley Bates, Linwood Bates and John Bates; her brothers, Roland Hatfield and Herbert Hatfield; and her sister, Reba Wilmot.
