Two Italians were arrested by the Lewiston police Saturday evening after, it was alleged, one of them had fired a shot from a revolver at Fred Allaire of this city. It was shortly before ten o’clock when a boy came running into the Lewiston police station and said that there was trouble on Middle street. A shot had been fired and a crowd had chased two men. When Deputy Marshall Davis reached the corner of Park and Ash streets, he was informed that the men had entered a coal shed. The shed was darker than the street outside and the deputy had no searchlight, but he entered and told the two men to come out if they were in there. The two men were seen coming from another door. Davis put on the high speed and caught up with them. Each had a revolver which was taken from him by force.

The 15 victories racked up this winter by first-year EL coach Karl Henrikson cannot be matched by any Auburn squad over at least the past 30 years. Our books go back 31 years, to 1957, when the Red Eddies last captured a Western Maine crown. That season, coach Dick Michelson’s Red Eddies compiled a mediocre 9-8 record, but it was good enough for the No. 5 tourney slot. The Cinderella Eds knocked off Traip Academy of Kittery, 59-56, in the quarter-finals, eliminated South Portland 75-61 in the semi-finals, then won the crown with an 81-68 victory over the second-ranked Westbrook Blue Blazes. Coach Henrickson’s current EL team enters Friday’s Class “A” tournament at Portland with a sparkling 15-3 record and a lofty No. 4 ranking.
