RUMFORD — Mary E. Waterhouse, 97, formerly of Highland Terrace, Mexico, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, at her residence at the Rumford Community Home.
She was born in Eliot, Jan. 3, 1916, the daughter of H. Martin and Annie Mae (Eldridge) Frost. Mary graduated from Eliot High School, Class of 1934, and from the University of Maine at Orono, Class of 1938 with her associate’s degree.
Mary worked as a dietician at the Rumford Hospital for several years and then for more than 25 years for the Rumford School Department Lunch Program as a supervisor, until retirement in 1983.
She was a member of the Rumford Methodist Church, the Mary and Martha Club of the church and was very active on church suppers. She was a great cook and loving mother and she thoroughly enjoyed her time with her family and friends
She was formerly married in Marysville, Calif., March 12, 1943, to Arthur Gogan and later married Dec. 23, 1968 in Mechanic Falls, to Norwood S. Waterhouse, who died in Rumford, July 25, 2010.
Survivors include sons, Jerry Gogan of Farmington and Allan Gogan of Canton; daughter, Nancy Leadbetter and husband, Ted, of Brewer; stepsons, Duane Waterhouse and wife, Gemma, of Rumford, Dale Waterhouse and wife, Johanna, of Lubbock, Texas, and Lauris Waterhouse and wife, Maureen, of Raymond; stepdaughter, Cheryl Gallant and husband, Gerard, of Stratton; many grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Mara Marshall of Kittery.
She was predeceased by brothers, John and Joseph Frost; and daughter-in-law, Jackie Gogan.
