PERU — Selectman Richard Powell still has not turned in an application for his junkyard. Selectmen Secretary Kathy Hussey said Powell had paid for his permit but had not turned in the application.

In a public session, an attendee asked why Powell was not in compliance. Selectmen Chairman Tim Holland answered that it was because Powell had not turned in an application for the renewal of his junkyard.

The board approved an ad requesting bids for cemetery maintenance to be placed. The bids will not include clean-up of large brush or trees, as this will be later addressed in the budget process.

The board said that if they did a big clean-up of a few cemeteries at a time, they could get them all done in a few years.

There is a small sliver of land — about a tenth of an acre — that was not conveyed to Albert Bresette when he bought the old Grange recently. He now wants the tiny piece of land on Route 108 so that he can square up his lot. The board voted to ask the town for permission to sell that parcel of land at the annual town meeting.

The board entered into executive session, citing a personnel issue, 1M.r.s.a. -405(6) A. Nothing was discussed upon their return, but Powell insisted that the board never received information that was sent from the Legal Department of Maine Municipal Association on April 26, which concerned the ordinance regulating town employees who serve on the board. Hussey said Town Clerk Vera Parent got the email, and Hussey didn’t see it until June. That’s when she delivered it to the board. It states that the ordinance should include language which prevents this ordinance from applying to the two selectmen who are also town employees. It does add, however, that the people in question should be able to finish the remainder of their terms of office.

The board voted to remain with the 50 percent reimbursement from General Assistance, which is what they have done in the past.

This was the last board meeting for Edward Ferland, Powell, Holland and Hussey. Their terms ended Monday with recall votes.
