RUMFORD/MEXICO — The Rumford and Mexico Historical Societies are sponsoring a bus trip for their members on Tuesday, April 23, to Augusta to tour the Maine State House, the Blaine House (Governor’s Mansion), the Maine State Museum and the Maine State Archives. Members of the Dixfield and Peru Historical Societies are also invited to participate.
The tours have been arranged by House Rep. Sheryl Briggs from District 93 and Amanda Browne, State Museum educator. All buildings are located in close proximity to one another, but some walking is required.
Cost per person is $25, which covers transportation and gratuity for the driver. The 30-passenger coach-style charter tour bus, equipped with lavatory, has been contracted from NorthEast Charter & Tour Co., Inc. of Lewiston. Lunch of each attendee’s choosing can be purchased at the Cross Cafe (Capitol Cafeteria) in the Cross Building. Bus will leave from the New Page parking lot, on Lowell Street, directly behind the American Legion Building in Rumford. The bus will leave promptly at 7 a.m. and return to the parking lot by 5 p.m. Cars may be left in the lot for the day.
All checks, made out to Rumford Historical Society, must be received by treasurer Lewis Irish, PO Box 186, Rumford, ME, no later than March 15, after which vacant seats will be open to the general public. Indicate which tours you wish to attend. To get forms, call Jane Peterson at 207-369-9288.
In the event that insufficient numbers of people sign up and the trip is cancelled by April 9, all monies will be refunded, or if an individual finds he cannot make the trip, the money will be refunded up until April 9.
