Gary Rumley, 57, of Rumford, escaped injury at about 10:20 p.m. Wednesday when he lost control of the 1995 Jeep he was driving west on icy Route 2, Rumford police Cpl. Lawrence Winson said. The Jeep went off the highway and onto a snowbank at 1106 Route 2, taking out a mailbox before spinning around facing east and flipping onto its roof. It came to rest in the westbound lane. “He’s lucky to be alive,” Winson said. Rumford firefighters provided traffic control and cleaned debris and fluids from the road. Traffic was halted for about 15 minutes while a Bisson & Hebert tow truck driver removed the Jeep.
