TOGUS — The Rev. Dr. Daniel Edward Harrison Jr., 78, of Kingfield passed away on March 5, at the Togus VA Hospital with his wife, Lois by his side.

He was born April 1, 1934, in Dedham, Mass., the son of Daniel and Evelyn (Peterson) Harrison Sr. He attended schools in Phillips and graduated from Phillips High School in 1952.

Dan held a doctorate degree in both electrical engineering and in religious humanities. He was married to Christie (Packard) Harrison for 42 years and she died in November 1997. He later married Lois Fagan White, Aug. 25, 2000.

They made their home on the West Kingfield Road in Kingfield. Dan was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean Conflict and was a Purple Heart recipient. In his earlier years, he worked as a radio engineer in Vermont, Skowhegan and Farmington and other locations in the U.S.

He helped in the construction of WKTJ in Farmington and then as an announcer there. In 1964, he worked as an electrical engineer at Duracell and Summagraphics in Connecticut, and later at General Electric in Plainville, Conn., for 10 years.

Dan was past commander of American Legion Post 165 in Wolcott, Conn. He was a member of the Prescott Fairbanks American Legion Post 64 in Phillips for more than 50 years. He belonged to the Forty & Eight Organization, the Odd Fellows and served as a Boy Scout leader for many years. He was a volunteer at the Special Olympics at Sugarloaf.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Harrison of Kingfield; his sons, Daniel and wife, Denise, of Tennessee, Kris and wife, Mary Ann, of Waterbury, Conn., Dale and wife, Janice, of Wolcott, Conn., Vale and wife, Karen, of Meriden, Conn., and Patrick and wife, Charlene, of Augusta; his daughters, Chris Ann Jiminez of Hawaii, and Patricia Shurtleff and husband, Phillip, of Carrabassett; his brother, Norman Harrison of Kentucky; his half-brother, Hugh Hanscom of Georgia; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Christie; his infant son, Darren; and his sister, Caroline.
