WILTON — As part of its Think Local First Campaign, the Wilton Group is supporting the six local sugar houses participating in Maple Syrup Sunday on March 24.
The sugar houses will be open for tours and will have treats for visitors to sample and purchase.
Those participating include Black Acre Farms, 123 Black Road. They will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and events will include sugar bush and sap house tours, syrup tasting, maple cotton candy, maple whoopee pies and other refreshments.
Hall Farm, Route 2, East Dixfield, will hold an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the old schoolhouse and showroom. Cost is adults, $8; under age 12, $5. Tours will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include the sugar house and farm. Free ice cream with maple syrup will be available.
Long Drive Acres Maple Farm, 319 Temple Road, up from East Wilton, will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Features include tours of the evaporation setup. The showroom will be open, with samples of maple syrup on vanilla ice cream and items like maple cream to sell.
Mystic Valley Maples, Route 2, East Dixfield, will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 23 and 24. The showroom will be open and they will feature maple syrup and other treats.
Sweet Maple Farm, 391 Weld Road, will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will feature ice cream and pineapple, each with maple syrup, baked beans made with maple syrup, and coffee made with maple sap. The showroom will be open with maple products for sale.
New this year is Sunrise Maple Farm, More Acres Road, East Dixfield. The sugar house is the inspiration and work of the Goulds’ 15-year-old daughter as part of a home-schooling project. They will feature a pancake and waffle breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children. The sugar house will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will feature maple syrup and T-shirts. The Goulds will donate $1 from the breakfast, shirts and maple syrup to curing breast cancer.
The Wilton Group’s goal is to be an effective resource for a community of engaged citizens. The goal of the TLF campaign is to promote and encourage people to shop locally.
