- Jim Andrews of Rumford boils sap in his driveway in Rumford on Saturday using his homemade boiler. His wife, Tami-Jo Casper-Andrews, said by email that they are in their third year of making maple syrup. “Everything is recycled except for the smoke stack, good old Yankee ingenuity,” Casper-Andrews said. “This is the first time with this new boiler, and it’s doing a great job.” She said they boiled March 16 and got just shy of a gallon and hope to have that much or more this time. Sap is still running “so maybe we will get to boil one more time next weekend. Who knows, maybe it will be a long season this year.”
