WELD — Jean L. Kay, 62, of School Street in Weld, passed away in her sleep on Tuesday, March 19, at her residence, with her soul mate, Willy, at her side, following a valiant battle with lung cancer.
She was born in Ft. Collins, Colo., a daughter of Lee R. and Nadine (Wine) Warnke.
Jean received her BA degree and her master’s degree in English from Colorado State University.
At the time of her passing, Jean was employed as the director of University College in Rumford and Mexico. Jean was a member of the Church of the Brethren and a member of the National Honor Society. She was a staunch supporter of the Lance Armstrong Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Heifer International and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.
Jean loved libraries, literature, painting, fine food, President Obama and wife, Michelle, cats, babies, paper dolls, family get-togethers, her colleagues and peers, Ted Talks, gardening and music. She was an emissary to higher education, as this was a driving force in her life.
Surviving are her husband of 19 years, William O. “Will” Kay of Weld; her stepmother, Ruby Warnke of Ft. Collins, Colo.; her children, Jonathon Chenoweth and wife, Elizabeth, of Windsor, Colo., Michael Chenoweth and wife, Danielle, of Wellington, Colo., and their children, Abby and Evan; two sisters, Dianne Perry and husband, Roger, of Falmouth, and Andrea Brumbaugh and husband, Geoff, of Montpelier, Vt.; a niece, Alana; and a nephew, Noah.
She was predeceased by her parents.
