CARRABASSETT VALLEY — A skiing accident at Sugarloaf USA on Monday morning sent a 6-year-old girl to the hospital with a serious injury.

This is the second accident reported within two days.

The young girl was skiing with her family Monday morning when, for some reason, she went off the King’s Landing trail and into the trees about 11:40 a.m., said Ethan Austin, Sugarloaf spokesman.

Ski patrol arrived within four minutes, and by noon she was taken by ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, he said.  The girl is believed to have suffered a serious injury, he said.

Although calls were made for a medical helicopter to take her to the hospital, none was available to respond to the call.

Skiing conditions on the intermediate trail is packed powder snow Monday, Austin said.

Another young girl suffered a head injury after striking a tree on the Candyside trail Sunday morning.

Austin had no update on her condition but said she was 10-years-old, younger than first reported.
