FORT PIERCE, Fla. — Laurette (Martin) Gammon, 82, of Fort Pierce, lost her battle with cancer on March 24, at Indian River Medical Center.

Laurette was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Lake Megantic, Canada, the eldest daughter of Paul and Juliette Roy. Laurette grew up in Mexico and lived in Maine until moving to Florida, in 2008. She loved living in Florida along with many of her siblings.

Laurette married Ray Martin in 1950, with whom she had six children. Laurette later married Ira Gammon. After moving to Florida, Laurette lived with her companion, John Lopez, until the time of her passing. She was very involved in the Hope Association of Rumford, which founded the Hope School, the Activity Center, the What Not Shop and three assisted living homes for handicapped adults.

Laurette is also survived by her son, Steve Martin and his wife, Louise, of Topsham; her daughter, Evelyn Gotto and her husband, Mike, of Turner; her son, Randy Martin and his wife, Pam, of Leeds; her son, Gary Martin and his wife, Brenda, of Lyman; her son, Jeffrey Martin and his companion, Robin Klombers, of Ashburn, Va.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Paul, Rene, Dennis and Roger; three sisters, Germaine, Paulette and Suzanne; and many nieces and nephews.

Laurette was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Ray and Claude; and her son, Norman.
