Bakers wanted, tickets available
NORWAY — The Friends of Norway Memorial Library will host their third annual spring chocolate event from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 5. This year the theme is “Ye Olde Chocolate Shoppe” and the public is invited to make a chocolate specialty for a chance to win a prize.
Attendees will sample items and vote for their favorites. To sign up to contribute an item, stop by the library’s information desk or call 743-5309, ext. 2. Guidelines are available and will be provided at sign up.
Free tickets are required for admission and may be picked up while they last through March 29 at the library’s information desk. The Friends appreciate community support and attendance at their events. Monetary donations will be gratefully accepted at the door and help The Friends of Norway Memorial Library continue their work for the library and its patrons.

Bird monitoring program March 27
BETHEL — A special event, “High-elevation Bird Monitoring in the Northeast: Tracking the Elusive for Conservation,” will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at McLaughlin Auditorium, Gould Academy. The program, co-hosted with Mahoosuc Land Trust, is free and open to the public.
Speaker Judith Scarl Judith is a conservation biologist at the Vermont Center for Ecostudies, where she leads Mountain Birdwatch. This program represents a unique opportunity not only to hear more about a bird that figures so prominently in Maine conservation issues, but the wider topic of high elevation birds.
Breeding in the dense, almost impenetrable forests of the Northeast’s mountaintops, the mysterious habits of the Bicknell’s Thrush have long been shrouded in secrecy. Intensive research and monitoring over the past two decades have given scientists unique insights into the biology of this vulnerable bird.
Food bank open in Sumner
SUMNER — Sumner Food Bank will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, April 1, at the Congregational Church of East Sumner, 50 Main St. It is open the first and third Mondays of each month. For more information call 388-2610.
Socrates Cafe gathering
WATERFORD — A Socrates Cafe gathering will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, April 1, at the Waterford Library. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month. The group offers a forum to discuss current topics and ideas in a warm, friendly atmosphere, where divergent views will be welcome. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.
The topic for the April meeting will be “Laughter: The Best Medicine?” Bring a joke, or not. The moderator will be Joanne Morse.

Senior social marks Earth Day
HARRISON — Celebrating Earth Day will be the theme for the April 2 Senior Social and Luncheon hosted by Harrison Parks and Recreation. This luncheon will be sponsored by the Harrison Lion’s Club; therefore no charge for next month’s senior gathering.
The socializing and fun begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m. at the community room at the fire station. Lolita Chisholm of Harrison, who specializes in Asian cuisine, will be making her special vegetable and chicken stir fry on rice.
As always dessert and beverage is included along with word games, bingo and a guess jar. A group of sixth-graders from the Harrison Elementary school will be joining in to help and share stories with the seniors.

WEST PARIS — The food pantry will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, at West Paris Baptist Church, 15 Church St. The pantry is open the first and third Tuesday of each month.
Spurrs Corner food pantry
OTISFIELD — The food pantry at Spurrs Corner Church, Route 121, will be open Tuesday, April 2, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Milltown Road Show concert
PARIS — The Milltown Road Show will be in concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at Deering Memorial United Methodist Church.
The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for ages 12 and under. Tickets are available at Books & Things or at the door.
Proceeds will benefit the tower fund.
Benefit dance for Special Olympics
MECHANIC FALLS — The Ray Brown Memorial Benefit Dance for Special Olympics is hosted annually by the Oxford Hills Rotary and Norway-Paris Kiwanis Clubs, which work together for this great cause. This year’s event will take place from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, April 6, at the Silver Spur.

Public supper, gospel concert
OXFORD — Grace Fellowship Church on Poplar Street will host a public supper followed by a gospel concert, Saturday, April 6, at 5:30 p.m. The menu will consist of meatloaf with gravy, mashed potato, peas and carrot mix, mixed vegetables, biscuits, homemade pies, coffee and beverage. The cost of the evening is $7 for adults, $3 for ages 12 and under.

PARIS — A yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at American Legion Post 72, Church St.
