PHILLIPS — The Phillips Public Library will launch its annual spring auction on Wednesday, April 3, a month-long event that will culminate in Auction Drawing Day on May 4. On that date, auction tickets that have been purchased by library patrons will be drawn from envelopes to determine who wins each bid item.
The auction is a long-standing annual affair and is a major fundraiser for the library. Managed in the past by Winona Davenport, and formerly called a Penny Auction, the auction’s new manager this year is Anne Richards who has assisted Davenport in the past.
Hundreds of items will be on display in the library’s annex, each with its numbered envelope that people may drop tickets into. Those bids will accumulate over the entire month until winners are picked and announced on May 4. People may view the items and purchase tickets during the time the annex is open: Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 to 5; and Saturdays from 10 to 2.
Additionally, a number of silent auction items will be on display, including a 13-foot utility trailer, a Ray LaMontagne leather jacket and a lady’s beaver skin coat. The auction also features many new pocketbooks for sale, together with some jewelry. All items in the auction have been donated by library patrons, residents of the Phillips area and several area businesses, including Frost Antiques, Calico Patch, Mooseville, Longfellows Restaurant in Kingfield and Walmart.
