LEWISTON — The Public Theatre is accepting applications for its professional theater training program for young actors which will run from July 8 to 26. Auditions are April 13 and applications must be received by April 10.
The Public Theatre is seeking dedicated students ages 10 to 16 to participate in a three-week intensive training program featuring master acting classes, stage combat, movement, voice and speech, singing and text analysis. The program will culminate in a free public performance on July 26.
The program is for experienced young performers wanting intensive theater training as well as for a “raw talent” looking to channel creativity and imagination.
Taught by theater professionals, with professional standards and insights, this challenging and inspiring program is a unique alternative to traditional “drama camps.”
Each child is encouraged to fully explore their imagination and intellect, and to express themselves in an integrated and dynamic way. We want young actors to tap into their potential in ways that might surprise them, and to understand that the process of creation is as important and exciting as the final show. Aside from improving their basic acting and concentration skills, students will also learn how to work as an ensemble and think on their feet, developing a greater sense of confidence and self esteem, all while having a ton of fun.
Participation in the program is through audition only.
Students will have the opportunity to audition for the program either on Saturday, April 13, or, if openings are still available, at a TBA date in May. Serious students who seek professional training are urged to apply as soon as possible. To attend the April 13 auditions, applications must be received by Wednesday, April 10. Applicants will be contacted to schedule an audition time.
The fee for the program is $475. Scholarships are available for a limited number of students with appropriate financial need.
