Baha’i film to air April 10

LEWISTON — On Wednesday, April 10, The Holy Family Church will host a screening of “Education Under Fire,” a 30-minute documentary that reports on The Islamic Republic of Iran’s three-decade long policy of denying members of the Baha’i community the right to attend any institute of higher education.

The Iranian Baha’i community began an informal university in which classes were taught in the homes of Baha’i academics. This soon became the Baha’i Institute for Higher Education. In May 2011, the Iranian government raided dozens of homes, confiscating computers and materials and detaining 18 professors and administrators.

The goal of the film, which is co-presented by Amnesty International, is to spread awareness of this issue as well as mitigate the effects of such discriminatory policies.

The film will be shown at 7 p.m. at the Holy Family Church basement. Park and enter the basement from the rear of the church.
