MONMOUTH — The Monmouth Lions Club held the 2013 Speak-Out on March 4 at the United Church of Monmouth Packard Activity Center, 778 Maine St.

The judges were Lions Archie Wing, Dawn McAndrews and Michelle Richardson.

Contestants were asked two questions each after their speeches. Questioners were Lion Scott Sanborn and Herb Whittier.

The speeches were evaluated in three categories: delivery of speech, material and response to the two questions.

The Monmouth Academy students finished as follows: first place, Sarah Record, “Lessons from Teen Pregnancy,” $50; second place, Angus Koller, “Nuclear Energy,” $40; third place, Amy Nacca, “Psychology Courses in High Schools,” $30.

Monmouth Academy coaches Scott and Cathy Foyt were presented a Lions Club International 18-month calendar for their hard work and dedication to their students.

Chairperson of the Speak-Out contest Guy Piper commended the students on a job well done.
