PORTLAND — A judge has ordered a Portland handyman to pay $236,000 in restitution to 14 victims after finding him guilty of violating Maine’s Unfair Trade Practices Act.
Cumberland County Superior Court Justice Joyce Wheeler ruled that Daniel Tucci was guilty of false advertising, collecting payments in advance and failing to perform promised work. He also was found guilty of providing shoddy and incomplete work, refusing to correct his work or pay refunds, and intimidating and threatening customers.
Wheeler also ordered that Tucci never again operate a home repair or handyman business.
Wheeler presided over Tucci’s three-day trial in January after Maine’s attorney general filed a lawsuit against him.
Attorney General Janet Mills on Tuesday called Tucci’s behavior “reprehensible.”
