LEWISTON — The Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society will hold its Spring General Meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at Callahan Hall, Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon St. Doors open at 9:45.

The public is welcome to attend the presentation of the guest speaker, Dr. Jean-Claude Redonnet. He will speak around 10:30, after the meeting.

French-born and permanent resident of Falmouth, Redonnet is professor emeritus and a research director at Paris-Sorbonne in British and French colonization/decolonization history. He served as a diplomat in Australia, Canada, Japan, in Egypt as Rector of Universite Leopold S. Senghor and as director of the French School at Middlebury College, Vermont. He is currently collaborating with the Maine French Heritage Language Program, the Centre de la Francophonie des Ameriques (Quebec) and is associate faculty at the University of Maine, Orono.

He has recently furthered his family genealogical researches in France through the online resources of several Archives Departementales. His presentation will focus on his personal findings, to share them with Auburn/Lewiston genealogists interested in the tools now available online in France.

The MFGS Research Library is on the second floor at Fortin Group Funeral Home, 217 Turner St., Auburn. The library will be open after the meeting from 1 to 4 p.m. for those wishing to visit the library. New members are most welcome.
