The youths are collecting articles for their annual three-day Memorial Day yard sale
WILTON — Wilton Fish and Game Association members recently honored the Rimfire, Firing Pins and Single Shot youth shooting teams at the clubhouse on Route 2 with a potluck supper.
The youths have had such success in the sport of shooting and gun safety that the single shot team was added this year. The Rimfire and Firing Pins received several awards after competing in the 44th annual Maine Junior Four Position Gallery Rifle Championship at Capital City Rifle Range in Augusta.
The Wilton Fish and Game Association was well represented by the youth teams. They competed against 10 other teams with a total of 48 shooters. The highest possible score could total 400 points. The Rimfires as a club team took third place with a total score of 1,370 plus 19 bullseyes out of 1600.
Trophies were presented to Jared Roy, who placed 10th in the intermediate junior class with a score of 364 plus 14 and first place in kneeling; Lindzee Ridley placed 13th with a score of 354 plus 7 and took third female; Connor Maurais came in 19th in the intermediate junior at 323 plus 4 and fourth in the sub junior class; Gavin Sanders placed 22nd in the intermediate junior at 323 plus 4 and first place in the 17 year old class.
Special recognition went to Curtis Farmer, placing 37th in intermediate junior at 286; Alex Morrell, 39th place in international junior at 283 plus 1; and Bailey Morrell, 41st place in international junior at 260 plus 2. Firing pins finished eighth place with Jared Roy, Curtis Farmer, Alex Morrill and Bailey Morrell participating.
Throughout the year the Rimfire and Firing Pins have participated in the 2013 postal competition. The teams shoot at the club’s indoor range once a week and then mail their targets to the Capital City Rifle Range for scoring.
The Rimfire Team placed second in division one. Each team member was awarded a trophy: Jared Roy, Lindzee Ridley, Connor Maurais, Corey Ridley and Gavin Sanders.
The Firing Pins placed third in division three. Each member was awarded a trophy: Alex Kennedy, Alex Morrell, Bailey Morrell, Curtis, Farmer and Paul Hinkley.
The prone team called Single Shots placed third in division one. Shooters are Karlee Noll, Ben Drum, Gage Sampson, Matthew Drum, Cordell Welch and Ian Sanders.
Greg Roy explained to those attending that the shooters participated in the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program. Each shooter is ranked by meeting certain set scores on a half target for the first four ranks. Any position shot and from a specific position. Ranks are promarksman, marksman, marksman 1st class, sharpshooter, sharpshooter bars 1-9, expert and distinguished expert. A patch was awarded to all shooters.
Promarksman certificates and chevron patches were awarded to Connor Maurais, Corey Ridley, Lindzee Ridley, Jared Roy, Gavin Sanders, Curtis Farmer, Paul Hinkley, Alex Kennedy, Alex Morrell, Bailey Morrell, Ben Drum, Karlee Noll and Matthew Drum.
Marksman certificates with chevron patches were awarded to Connor Maurais, Corey Ridley, Lindzee Ridley, Jared Roy, Gavin Sanders, Curtis Farmer, Paul Hinkley, Alex Kennedy, Alex Morrell and Bailey Morrell.
Marksman first class certificates and chevron patches went to Connor Maurais, Corey Ridley, Lindzee Ridley, Jared Roy, Gavin Sanders, Curtis Morrell, Alex Morrell and Bailey Morrell.
Sharpshooter certificates and chevron patches were awarded to Connor Maurais, Lindzee Ridley, Jared Roy, Curtis Farmer, Alex Morrell and Bailey Morrell. Sharpshooter bar certificates and bars were presented as follows: first bar to Connor Maurais, Jared Roy, Curtis Farmer and Alex Morrell, and second bar to Jared Roy.
Connor Maurais was awarded a plaque to be displayed in the clubhouse for second place junior shooter in the 78th Maine State Prone Championship.
The youth shooting teams will be collecting articles for their annual three-day Memorial Day yard sale. The youths would be happy to pick up any unwanted articles from families who would like to donate them to the yard sale. For pick up call Greg Roy at 931-8724.
