RUMFORD — The board of directors for the Rumford Historical Society has finalized the following spring activities.
A bus trip, co-sponsored with Mexico Historical Society, to Augusta to tour the State House, the Blaine House (Governor’s Mansion), Maine State Museum and the Maine Archives will take place on Tuesday, April 23. The bus will leave the parking lot behind the American Legion Building at 7 a.m. promptly, and returns by 5 p.m. Cars may be parked there for the day.
Contact Lewis Irish at 364-8303 to see if seats are available. Cost is $25 and is nonrefundable. Lunch is available in the Cross Cafeteria at the individual’s expense. Checks made out to Rumford Historical Society should be mailed to Lewis Irish at PO Box 186, Rumford ME 04276.
The society will hold its Annual Meeting of the Members at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, in the Rumford Auditorium on Congress Street. Slate of officers/directors will be presented by the nominating committee for election for 2013-14. The speaker for the evening will be Louise Horne, who will discuss clothing fashions from the early settlers of Rumford.
The Historical Society’s annual fundraising yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1. Rain date is June 8. David Kimball is chairperson for the event. Contact the society’s office at 364-2540 on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to make arrangements for pick-up or delivery of items from spring house cleaning projects. No clothing will be accepted. Calls can be left on the message machine on other days.
The usual plant sale of perennials and seedlings will be a big feature of the sale. Empty pots of varying sizes are needed immediately for potting. Baked goods and food items will be available for sale, and donations are eagerly accepted.
The museum will also open for the summer the same day.
